Sophie O'Sheen is the Innovation Centre & Marketing Coordinator at Maidstone Innovation Centre, where her enthusiasm for fostering collaboration and supporting businesses thrives. Drawn to the Centre due to her previous experience in a similar business hub, Sophie quickly discovered her passion for working closely with people in a vibrant and dynamic environment.

“What I love most about being here is the variety each day brings,” Sophie shares. From meeting new tenants to organising resources and events that facilitate business growth, she finds fulfilment in supporting the journeys of companies and witnessing their successes firsthand. “The most rewarding part is getting to know these businesses and seeing them grow,” she adds.

For Sophie, the essence of her role lies in creating a welcoming community for both new and existing tenants. She fosters a friendly atmosphere by being approachable and always willing to lend a hand. “Whether it’s a quick chat in the kitchen or a catch-up in the corridor, I make sure tenants feel comfortable reaching out,” she explains. The open-door policy of her close-knit team ensures that everyone feels supported and connected, reinforcing the Centre’s mission to build a collaborative environment.

Sophie takes pride in her involvement from the early days of the Centre, even while the building was still under construction. “Having been here through the entire set-up process, I feel a deep connection to the space and a strong sense of accomplishment in seeing it come to life,” she reflects. This unique perspective has allowed her to gain invaluable insights into the Centre, and it’s particularly rewarding for her to welcome tenants into a place she has watched grow from the ground up.

What sets Maidstone Innovation Centre apart from other workspaces is its connection to Maidstone Borough Council. “We’re here for more than just leasing space,” Sophie emphasises. The Centre provides access to a network of resources and connections through the economic development team and other external partnerships, allowing for tailored support that genuinely benefits businesses. This blend of workspace and community support creates an environment where innovation can flourish.

Sophie is particularly excited about the Centre’s impact on the healthcare and life sciences community. “Watching our tenants push boundaries with innovative technologies, especially with the integration of AI into their products and services, is inspiring,” she notes. Knowing that she plays a role in supporting their growth and impact within the industry adds to her passion for her work.
